Costa Rica Knitting Retreat!

August 27th – September 3rd, 2016

For sixteen years Hope and Barry Blazer had a wonderful yarn shop, Accents On Knits in Morristown, NJ. Fourteen months ago they “semi-retired” to live the dream in Costa Rica where they established Accents on Knits Limitada to host our “Knitting Retreats to Costa Rica”.

Join me, Carol Sulcoski and Brooke Nico for 7 days of knitting, sun and fun!

From the Accents on Knit website:

Patty Lyons, Carol Sulcoski and Brooke Nico all of whom regularly teach at Vogue Knitting Live and Stitches. Patty is a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert who is known for teaching the “why” not just the “how” in her pursuit of training the “mindful knitter”. She is known for her popular classes on Craftsy, Interweave and Annie’s as well as her designs in Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and Creative Knitting magazines, where she also writes a knitter’s advice column called “Patty’s Purls of Wisdom”. Carol is an attorney by day, and a knitting author / hand-dyer / designer the rest of the time. She is the author of “Knitting Ephermera”; a volume of facts, anecdotes, historical tidbits, and other fun information about knitting and fibers; “Lace Yarn Studio”; “Sock Yarn Studio”; “Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarns”; and “Knit So Fine”. Brooke, the author of“Lovely Knitted Lace” and the just published “More Lovely Knitted Lace”, began her designing activities by sewing her own wardrobe, inspired by drape and color. She brought her talents to knitting almost 10 years ago, first exploring modular construction, then lace. As a dedicated teacher, Brooke guides knitters through the intricacies of techniques to make their projects as polished as possible.

Instructions for selecting your workshops is covered on the Aug. 27th Workshops page. You will attend five workshops (but are asked to choose your top 7 choices) and then spend the rest of the time participating in one of the exciting activities we have planned for you. Of course, you will have time to lounge by the pool, relax in a hot spring, walk on the beach, work out in the gym, or treat yourself to a spa service at a bargain price.

If this will be your first trip to Costa Rica, you will want to see and experience the natural beauty that is so abundant here: the beaches, rainforests, volcanoes and wildlife. Accents on Knits has arranged for you to get a very good taste of all of these things in the week that you will be here.

We found two perfect facilities to host the event. We are certain that you will be pleased with what the resorts and our retreat have to offer.

Arenal Paraiso Resort And Spa

Our first “home” will be in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano west of the town of La Fortuna in Alajuela Province in North Central Costa Rica. We use the term “home” because everywhere you go in Costa Rica, people make you feel at home whether you are in a hotel, restaurant, shop or just out walking. In fact, when surveyed as they are about to leave, the number one thing that visitors liked were the people! All of the resort’s rooms are individual bungalows with two queen beds facing the majestic volcano. Here is a photo album with pictures of the grounds, pool, hot springs and spa.
This Three-Star resort has a number of hot springs with rich mineral waters that are heated by the volcano as well as a fabulous pool complete with beverage service. The expansive property has it’s own modern 11-station canopy [zip-line] system [pictured above]. They also offer an array of very reasonably priced spa services that will be available at a discount to our group!

The Flamingo Beach Resort And Spa

This Four-Star hotel in Guanacaste Province on Costa Rica’s northern Pacificcoast has everything we wanted: lovely rooms, beautiful white sandy beaches, pools, spa services, fine dining, a casino and even a little shopping. It will be our second home for relaxation and the tours that we have planned. We’ve also arranged for discounts off the spa services here just for our group.

The room pictured has a king size bed but most rooms have two queens which is perfect if you will be sharing a room with a friend. For those who want to spend more time in Costa Rica we have arranged with the hotel to accommodate anyone arriving before Saturday, August 27th, or staying beyond Saturday, September 3rd.

Costa Rica is known for it’s spectacular sunsets and this is the perfect place to experience them with a glass of wine or cocktail in hand. After fourteen months here we are still amazed by the exquisite beauty of the sunsets. We guarantee that you will take home pictures at least as nice as this one. If not, we will be happy to make arrangements for you to come back for more fun and excitement in Costa Rica.

Tours

Exciting and informative tours have been arranged at both locations in addition to our teacher’s special knitting workshops.

In Arenal

  1. You will take a guided tour of the Arenal National Park over trails marked with the remains of previous lava flows. Along the way you will discover the abundant flora and fauna of the rain forest and learn about the surprising history and activity of this still active volcano
  2. Enjoy a kayak or raft trip. This 4 to 5 hour door to door tour will take you down a slow moving river above which you will see and hear many monkeys and birds in the trees and a variety of lizards and reptiles along the river bank.
  3. Experience an eleven-station canopy [zip-line] excursion or take a horseback ride up the slope of the volcano, both of which are at the Arenal Paraiso Resort.
In Guanacaste

  1. Our favorite tour is a 4-hour catamaran excursion complete with swimming, snorkeling, delicious snacks and beverages that ends just after a glorious sunset.
  2. We had to include a shopping trip to beautiful Tamarindo, famous for surf boarding, where there are lots of quaint shops to browse and eateries to enjoy.
