FAQs

Costa Maya KAL

Q: What is a KAL?

A: KAL stands for knit-along! It’s a great way to work through a garment with the support of the designer (me), but more importantly, hundreds of other knitters.

If you are new to KALs, find helpful FAQ on the general info page.

The heart of the KAL is our Ravelry group. There we will have updates, discussions, sharing of pictures, and knitting tips.

Q: How do I register and order supplies?

A: Simply by purchasing the Costa Maya KAL pattern…

  • From my Ravelry page. (Use promo code: CostaKAL during the pre-sale period before Feb 26 and get 10% off!)

You can join in ANYTIME! The KAL info will stay live on my group forever, and the video tutorial links will never expire! But the KAL class price goes up to $14 after May 1, so join now even if you aren’t going to work the sweater class until later.

Q: Where do we get our yarn

We are using the perfect spring / summer yarn, Classic Elite Firefly

  • From Fiber Wild
  • (at a 20% discount AND free shipping!!)
  • Or your LYS (that’s “local yarn shop”)

Be sure to add a couple of balls to your order so you have enough for swatching, or pattern modifications.

Q: What skills will I learn?

A: The sweater is chocked FULL of techniques. There will be video tutorials on all specialty skills along with sweater basics.

New skills learned:

  • Turned seamed hem
  • German Short rows
  • Chart reading
  • Lace tricks
  • Fixing mistakes in lace
  • Working the lace for combo knitters
  • How to adjust pattern for gauge
  • Working a short row shawl collar
  • Setting in a sleeve
  • Picking up stitches
  • Left lifted and right lifted increase
  • and MORE!

There will also be videos that cover all your sweater basics like gauge, blocking, cast on, seaming and more.

If you are a new sweater knitter, up for a challenge or a long time sweater knitter looking to learn a few new tricks, meet your dream sweater!

My Crossback measurement is 13” but my bust size is 42” (no ease). do I really pick the Small pattern as the directions on the Firefly yarn suggest? Will your instructions (Pattern or videos) really show me how to make the correct increases to accomodate this change? I assume I should buy the yarn yardage that is closer to the 42” bust measurement size. Help!!
