I’m happy to announce I’ll be teaching two different live video classes this June. Attend the class live and be able to participate in questions and answers. Each class is offered twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, so all time zones can play!
The class will be recorded. You will be sent a link to download the video class file 48 hrs after the class! If you can’t attend live, the Gauge class will be available for purchase later in June.
I will be offering two sessions of each class. Make Your Gauge work is a lecture based class with Q & A, Build a Better Fabric is a hands on class. Space is limited.
Make YOUR Gauge Work
June 5 – 2:30 – 4:30 EDT or June 6 – 10:00 – noon EDT
Build a Better Fabric: Perfect Your Knitting Technique
June 5 – 10:00 – noon EDT or June 6 – 2:30 – 4:30 EDT
You know the basics of gauge, but how do you make your own gauge work for you! Stop trying to match the gauge exactly and learn how to knit a project to YOUR gauge. After a review of the basics, and how to make a “truthful” swatch, we’ll get to some of the trickier elements of gauge, such as pre blocked v.s. blocked gauge, hung gauge, and the difference between yarn gauge and pattern gauge. We will explore what to do when a project is knit in the round or in a pattern stitch. We’ll even look at special gauge techniques such as speed swatch and an open cast on.
Finally, we’ll master the math of using your gauge, not just the pattern gauge. We’ll learn how to work an existing size with a different gauge, resize a sweater by using a different gauge, how to add different stitch patterns to your garment, and how to make adjustments to your pattern when your row gauge is off. Stop trying to match someone else’s gauge and discover the joys of making YOUR gauge work!
By the end of this lecture based class, you’ll be ready to knit the sweater of your dreams.

Build a Better Fabric: Perfect Your Knitting Technique
We know how to knit, but do we know how to build a perfect fabric? There’s always room for improvement! Does your knitting “row out” (your purl stitch looser than your knit stitch), are you looking for a better way to control your gauge? What about alternative ways to tension your yarn when working with stiff yarn or slippery yarn?
We’ll explore ways to improve your knitting technique by looking at the most important fundamentals, like the job of the left needle tip and the right needle shaft, stitch sizing, and even the correct exit path of your stitch. We will explore edge stitches, cast on and bind offs and a huge array of knitting tip. The last part of the class will be open for all knitting questions, so come with your questions and let’s explore our knitting.
Come with your knitting ready to practice! You’ll be knitting along with me.
This is a hands-on knitting class, so space is limited to 30.
How to Take a Live Video Class
I have a front camera on my face so we can talk and an overhead camera shooting my hands so I can demo and teach. I will be switching back and forth between the two cameras.
For most students they just use the front camera on their computer, laptop or tablet. However if you’d like me to be able to see your hands you could use a tablet on a stand (like the ipad pictured here) and hold your hands in front of it.
