I love sweaters. I love to knit sweaters. I love to wear sweaters. I have knit some great ones and some not great ones. Over the years I’ve made just about every sweater mistake that can be made.
Since we are about to cast on for the newest video sweater class on my Ravelry group (jump in anytime!), it seemed like a good time to look at some simple sweater secrets (say THAT 5 times fast!)

We have just begun to swatch for Harbor Springs Video KAL and it’s time to talk fit and the ever so mysterious “ease”.
In the last video sweater class for Costa Maya I showed the same sweater tried on several different body types (The Many Shapes of Costa Maya.) This really helped people see how the same sweater can look different AND great on a lot of different shapes and sizes.
Before we do the same thing for Harbor Springs, I want to dig into that age old knitter’s question:
What is “ease”

The love of German Short rows is strong in knitters! Last year we worked with the wrap and turn method in both the Tortola KAL and the Rising Spades KAL and for Costa Maya we uses German short-rows. In April we learned out to substitute German Short Rows for Wrap and Turn and when I would and wouldn’t substitute.
Although the work beautifully in the round, there is one trick to closing the gap

The Costa Maya KAL has wrapped up, and now I’m experiencing that same bittersweet feeling of pride and loss that comes with the end of a wonderful experience. Not unlike the wrapping of a show when I was working in theater. Even though it’s a little sad to say goodbye to Costa Maya, I’m once again humbled and blown away by all of you and how much you’ve learned and grown. Also there are still plenty of KALers continuing to work on their lovely sweaters and rest assured, I’m still here to answer questions. Keep at it, I know you’ll love your finished sweaters!! My favorite part of the KAL aftermath is scrolling through the Ravelry group and reading the comments by the wonderful KALers, so I thought I’d share some with you!

Another Video KAL comes to an end and I’ll tell the truth, this one was special. Over 650 knitters joined in and the results have been truly amazing, Costa Maya was one of the most challenging things I’ve designed and wow, did these knitter’s rise to the challenge! Last month, I provided a sneek peek behind the design and now The KAL winners have been chosen and awarded!
If you are feeling inspired to try it, Costa Maya + pattern comes with over 4 hours of video tutorials, all the sweater modifications and knitting how tos for only will be $15.00!!
Through it all, the help and support of every knitter on the Ravelry group was always there. Over 2500 amazing knitters let every first time sweater knitter know . . . they were not alone!
Never too late to jump into any sweater class, as the videos (embedded in the pattern) never expire, and the message boards stay live forever.
Now it’s time to discuss

I love short-rows. They are an amazing way to add super cool shapes to knitting. I use them a lot in my designs and I’ve enjoyed teaching them in my video knit-alongs. Last year we worked with the wrap and turn method in both the Tortola KAL and the Rising Spades KAL. The current video knit-along for Costa Maya uses German short-rows. Many knitters fell in love with this technique and now want to know…

Six weeks ago several hundred knitters cast on for the Costa Maya KAL. Since we started, our ranks have grown to over 600 knitters! Now that we are less then a month away from the final prizes, I thought it would be fun to step back and see a tiny corner of how a design comes to life.

So, the Costa Maya KAL is in full swing, and I’ve gotta be honest… you guys are KILLING it!! I’m always so excited to pop on Ravelry and see how everyone’s projects are coming along. No pressure, but please update often, with this bum arm I’m living through vicarious knitting pleasure!!
The turnout for this KAL has been amazing, but just in case there are any of you lurking on the fence, let me sweeten the pot. I know that it’s always a risk to start a new pattern. It can be tough to visualize how the final will look and if it could be a good addition to your wardrobe or one of those sweaters you shove to the back of your closet. I tend to model for the KAL photos and while I’m fairly petite with a pear shape, I know there are lots of different body types and sizes out there. So today I’d like to show off Costa Maya’s versatility with the help of some of the lovely ladies at my shared office space! (Shout-out to Brooklyn Creative League!)
I’ll go first.
