This month I was honored to be featured in the Vogue Knitting as one of the “Makers.” I wanted to create something really special so I designed the cable cardigan of my dreams. Later this month I’ll write about how I designed the cables, but for now it’s time to look at a special cast on. Meet the
Channel Island Cast On
Between the erratic weather (please no more snow!!) and this bum arm, I’ve got a major case of cabin fever. Fortunately, the warm weather is slowly making some headway and I’ve got PT exercises to get cracking on, so things are looking up. Thank goodness I’ve got lots to look forward to in the coming months, including the rest of the Costa Maya KAL (buy before May 8th to get the full version for only $9!) and lots teaching travel. To get you inspired for Spring and Summer knitting, here’s a collection of patterns to cast on as the mercury rises!
So, the Costa Maya KAL is in full swing, and I’ve gotta be honest… you guys are KILLING it!! I’m always so excited to pop on Ravelry and see how everyone’s projects are coming along. No pressure, but please update often, with this bum arm I’m living through vicarious knitting pleasure!!
The turnout for this KAL has been amazing, but just in case there are any of you lurking on the fence, let me sweeten the pot. I know that it’s always a risk to start a new pattern. It can be tough to visualize how the final will look and if it could be a good addition to your wardrobe or one of those sweaters you shove to the back of your closet. I tend to model for the KAL photos and while I’m fairly petite with a pear shape, I know there are lots of different body types and sizes out there. So today I’d like to show off Costa Maya’s versatility with the help of some of the lovely ladies at my shared office space! (Shout-out to Brooklyn Creative League!)
I’ll go first.
Last year I rolled out badges for the knitters who were in either two or three of my previous KALs (Corcoran KAL, Tortola KAL, & Soho Slip Stitch KAL). Since then, with the Rising Spades KAL and the just opened Costa Maya KAL, I figured it was time to update! If you’ve done all of my KALs, you are in the…
The Five-Timers Club!
Congratulations! Show off your achievement proudly!!

Welcome to 2018!! We made it through the holidays, all of our gift projects are (hopefully) off our needles and in the hands of their recipients, and we’re settling in to what looks to be a rough winter ahead. Don’t you deserve a little reward? Why not spend a little time on some “me knitting?”
Sweaters are the filet mignon of knitting patterns. They’re staples that can add tons of versatility to your wardrobe, they come in so many shapes, textures, and styles that there’s always something new to learn, and they can be as challenging or mindless as you want! This winter, curl up by the fire with a glass of wine and a classic new sweater to be! Need some inspiration to get you going? Here are some of my favorite sweater patterns!
Sweater Pattern Round Up
We’ve all been there. The holiday party/family get-together/office potluck is rapidly approaching, and you realize that you’re short a gift for someone. The WORST!! Well don’t lose hope, I’ve got some ideas for gifts that you can turn out in record time but will still give your gift recipient a heartfelt and handmade treasure!
