🎉 BOOKMARK IT - Knitting Tip! Pick up a drop 🎉 BOOKMARK IT - Knitting Tip!
Pick up a dropped stitch in garter

Yesterday we looked at picking up a dropped knit and a dropped purl. When we knit our yarn is in the back (and so is the running thread), when we purl our yarn is in front (and so is our running thread)

When you knit every row, we knit, then turn looking at purls), then knit and turn . . . That’s why the face of garter is a row of knit and row of purl. When you drop a stitch it makes total sense why some of the running threads are in back and some in front.

To fix the first thing we need to do is figure out what was the last completed stitch. Look at the base of the stitch. If it has a purl bump, it’s a purl, if it’s a smooth V, it’s a knit. Now you know which stitch to ladder up next.

Then it’s a matter of laddering up pairs. With hook facing down you can ladder up a purl, right into a knit, but after a knit you’ll have to remove your hook, move the running thread to the front of the stitch and pick up the next pair. Unless.... you have a double ended crochet hook!

Pick up a dropped knit or purl stitch.

Today I was teaching Build a Better Fabric and we were talking about what is a knit and what is a purl.

When we really see the structure - a knit is a loop pulled through another loop, and a purl is a loop pushed through another loop - it’s easy to fix. ❤️😂❤️
