Tuesday Tip: How to Measure Cross Back

The cross back (or shoulder to shoulder measurement) is the most important measurement in a set in sleeve sweater and the hardest to get right. On my Ravelry group we are getting ready to start the Corcoran Knit Along (starting June 20th, 2016). * The KAL will be filled with video tutorials and how tos […]

Tuesday Tip: How to Measure Armhole Depth

One of the things that can make or break a sweater is your armhole depth. If it’s too tight, your sweater will bunch under the arm (not to mention be very uncomfortable), if it’s too loose your sweater can look sloppy. On my Ravelry group we run video sweater KALs several times a year. The […]

I love my @slippedstitch studio chart keeper. I lo I love my @slippedstitch studio chart keeper. I love that it stands up and I can fold it, snap it shut and put it in my bag.

Measuring without a ruler⠀
⠀
Normally I would say avoid measuring your WIP by trusting your finished row gauge and keep track of rows. But sometimes we want to measure how much we knitted so far. If your ruler is nowhere to be found, here are some alternatives to measure without it.⠀

In one week we will see the end of the most toxic In one week we will see the end of the most toxic presidency in America's history. But make no mistake, this is not a reset and all will be restored. Trump did not spring forth, fully formed out of no where. He is only the product of a country that is built on white supremacy. Getting rid of Trump is not cutting off the head of the monster, it is only getting rid of the monster's baby.

We must not give into calls of "this is the time to move on", or "now is the time for healing". Healing can only begin after a diagnosis of the disease. We have to look just as hard at what lead our country to this place as we do to what we do next. We can start to heal once the cancer is cut out.

People are already scrambling to rewrite history and to reframe what happened. After the lies of "it was Antifa" failed, the "what about isms" started.

I have had many DMs in the past week that I have ignored, but the most popular question / accusation went along the lines of "why are you okay with violence when it came to BLM, but not these protestors?". (psst. The insurrectionists that invaded the Capitol weren't protestors).

Set aside the reality that the overwhelming majority of BLM protests were peaceful (93% according to a study released in the fall), set aside the outrage that PEACEFUL BLM protestors have been beaten, rounded up and arrested, while men and women with weapons who invaded the nation's capitol, were simply allowed to walk out unharmed, let's talk about intent.

This accusation of outrage hypocrisy uses the same spurious argument that gun rights advocates used to use in the 90s: that cars kill more people than guns (a fact that is no longer true, FYI). Set aside the fact that cars are REGULATED in order to reduce deaths (seatbelts, speed limits, testing before licensing, age minimums etc), a car's PURPOSE is not to kill.
The PURPOSE of BLM protests are to protest police violence. The PURPOSE of the Capitol insurrection was to overthrow a legal election.
So please don't express your "shock" to me that this could have happened. We put ourselves on this trajectory.
We have to LOOK at our past and present before we can change our future.
