In the era of social media, photos are all pretty much digital. But for some of us, we may remember photos B.S.(Before Social Media). Don’t get me wrong, I love Facebook and Instagram (where you can find all my pretty photos) but there was something truly special about the process of capturing a photo on film and sending it into a shop to get printed. The anticipation while waiting to get your pictures back was so exciting.
Personally, I love candid photos; I enjoy seeing people truly being in their element. That’s why I’m so fond of People Knitting: A Century of Photographs, by Barbara Levine. Barbara combines my appreciation for great photography and knitting in this vintage collection of people knitting throughout history. She showcases lovely candids of people knitting and enjoying life, and also staged photos of people with their knitting, showing us just how prevalent knitting was back then.
It’s time for the spring knit-along!!! I am so excited to start another KAL on my Ravelry group. There will be tons of teaching and fun, prizes and a great garment! This garment, the Roselle Tee, is totally reversible so it’s like getting TWO tops for the price of one (actually three, but more on that in a second).
As always, there will be HOURS of video tutorials, and modification documents to help you every step of the way.
After May 20the KAL – sweater class versions (with all the how tos, video tutorials, and modification notes) will be $16. So get it now, knit it now or later and SAVE!
As knitters, we often gift our own knitting masterpieces, but what do you gift to a fellow knitter? We are in the mist of the holiday season, and it’s time to think about what gifts we will be giving to our friends and family members who love to knit (and what gifts we will be secretly hoping we get!) Here are 10 phenomenal suggestions for loved ones that are passionate about knitting.
For most of my life, organization has not been just a helper, it’s been a necessity. My careers in both theater and LYS management demanded first-rate organization techniques, and I’m grateful for the lifetime of practice. Now that I’m self-employed, if I didn’t have all the systems in place that I do I’m sure I’d be tearing my hair out at the roots trying to stay on top of it all. So I deeply appreciate when something makes organizing my life a bit easier, and that brings me to my deep love of Ravelry. When Rav hit the scene in 2007 it was a game-changer. I don’t have to tell most of you how amazing it’s been to have a readily accessible community of fiber enthusiasts to chat with, bounce ideas off, and project stalk. But the clever folks at Ravelry have never stopped working and improving the site and it gets better every year! Today I want to talk about some of my favorite features that make my knitting life just a little less tangled. (GET IT?!)
The Costa Maya KAL has wrapped up, and now I’m experiencing that same bittersweet feeling of pride and loss that comes with the end of a wonderful experience. Not unlike the wrapping of a show when I was working in theater. Even though it’s a little sad to say goodbye to Costa Maya, I’m once again humbled and blown away by all of you and how much you’ve learned and grown. Also there are still plenty of KALers continuing to work on their lovely sweaters and rest assured, I’m still here to answer questions. Keep at it, I know you’ll love your finished sweaters!! My favorite part of the KAL aftermath is scrolling through the Ravelry group and reading the comments by the wonderful KALers, so I thought I’d share some with you!
Another Video KAL comes to an end and I’ll tell the truth, this one was special. Over 650 knitters joined in and the results have been truly amazing, Costa Maya was one of the most challenging things I’ve designed and wow, did these knitter’s rise to the challenge! Last month, I provided a sneek peek behind the design and now The KAL winners have been chosen and awarded!
If you are feeling inspired to try it, Costa Maya + pattern comes with over 4 hours of video tutorials, all the sweater modifications and knitting how tos for only will be $15.00!!
Through it all, the help and support of every knitter on the Ravelry group was always there. Over 2500 amazing knitters let every first time sweater knitter know . . . they were not alone!
Never too late to jump into any sweater class, as the videos (embedded in the pattern) never expire, and the message boards stay live forever.
EDIT – The 2018 KAL is Harbor Springs. On sale in July, casts on in Sept.
In two weeks my newest Video KAL, Costa Maya will kick off and I’ll get to see all your work. I love seeing your progress with pictures online, but nothing beats meeting you all in person and seeing your projects.
So today, an ode to all the amazing knitters who have been kind enough to share your talents with me. I can’t WAIT to see what you come up with next!
